The Cloaking Device is a Light class specialization that allows its user to enter invisibility for a limited duration.
Effects
The Cloaking Device can be activated to grant its user temporary invisibility. Opponents will not be able to see the user well, although there are still indications that the user is present:
- A glitchy visual effect replaces the contestant's body. This effect is almost completely invisible while the user is standing still, somewhat visible from close up if the user is moving slowly, and noticeable if the user is moving quickly.
- A glitchy sound is produced whenever the user is moving, which is intensified when they are moving quickly. This will alert nearby opponents that an invisible contestant is present.
Usage
The Cloaking Device can be selected as the specialization gadget of any Light build loadout.
The specialization trigger can be used to toggle on the gadget. It will remain active for up to 12 seconds, after which it is automatically disabled to recharge. It can also be disabled before this point by toggling it again. Attacking or using an item will forcibly end the effect.

Strategy
Strengths
- While standing still in the Cloaking Device, the user is almost completely unnoticeable and inaudible, even to opponents who are walking directly past the user. The user still has collision, though, which could give them away if an opponent bumps into them.
Weaknesses
- Thermal Vision counters the Cloaking Device as it will reveal them to the Thermal Vision user.
- Using the Cloaking Device locks the user out of using the movement options available in the other Light specializations, trading them for a stealth tool.
- If a Cloaking Device user is trying to get away from a weapon that can fire quickly such as an assault rifle, it will not be possible to go invisible until no longer in the line of sight of the opponent, as the stream of bullets will continuously break the cloak. Burning from the Flamethrower has the same effect.
- On the other hand, the Cloaking Device works better in mid-combat against weapons such as the Model 1887, which only fires very slowly. By the time the next shot is ready, the invisible user may have moved enough to dodge it.
Tactics
- Walking as slowly as possible in the Cloaking Device mitigates most of the sound cue and visual effect that would normally reveal the user to nearby opponents.
- Activating Cloaking Device near the end of the invisibility provided by the Vanishing Bomb allows the contestant to seamlessly transition to the other invisibility, effectively extending it. There will not be a visual or sound trigger for entering the cloaking device this way.
Item Mastery
Item mastery XP for the Cloaking Device can be earned solely by activating it.
Each time a certain XP threshold is reached, the item levels up. This does not improve the item, but rewards a unique item customization.
