Gameplay

Various gameplay details about THE FINALS.

Gameplay Tips

These informational videos were posted in the official THE FINALS Discord server during Closed Beta 1 in the "#eggcademy" channel.

Quick Melee

A melee strike is available to all contestants, which is activated by pressing the "Quick Melee" keybind (default "V" on PC). This will cause the contestant to perform a quick frontal elbow strike, dealing 40 damage to anything in range. It is useful for breaking through obstacles such as glass panes, or finishing off low-health enemies. The Quick Melee can be performed while sliding and running without interrupting the contestant's momentum.

Objects

Main Page: Arena Carriables

Arenas are filled with a plethora of objects that can be manipulated by contestants using their Gravity Glove. Important objects that contestants will regularly pick up include Cash Boxes, elemental containers such as the Oil Barrel (see below), and statues of eliminated teammates. Other objects include décor such as flower pots, chairs, and trashcans.

Elements

Gas

Main Page: Gas

Toxic gas deals damage over time to all contestantswho come into contact with it. It can be released through green barrels, Gas Mines and Gas Grenades. The gas can be combusted by any fire, including from oil barrels, Pyro Grenades, or the Flamethrower. All Gas clouds last for 12 seconds and deal the same amount of damage to contestants. Multiple Gas clouds occupying the same area will not deal extra damage to contestants.

  • (10 ticks per second) x (5 damage per tick) = 50 damage per second
  • (50 damage per second) x (12 second duration) = 600 total damage

Goo

Main Page: Goo

Goo is a substance which expands and becomes solid when it contacts terrain. As cover, it creates a barrier from bullets and blocks lines of sight. It can also be used to traverse the map as a makeshift platform to reach higher places. It can be released through pink barrels, Goo Grenades and the Goo Gun. Goo is very flammable and will be quickly cleared out by fire, and can also be destroyed with a moderate amount of damage.

Fire

Fire spreads easily through vegetation and damages all contestants that it touches. Affected contestants will then burn, inflicting small but constant damage. It can be released through orange Oil Barrels, Pyro Mines, Pyro Grenades and the Flamethrower. Fire will immediately be smothered by smoke, but will ignite Gas within a second and ignite Goo immediately, destroying it in six seconds (provided no smoke or powder is present in the same location as the Gas or Goo). Fires from Pyro Grenades, Pyro Mines, and Flammable Canisters all last 12 seconds and deal 35 points of damage per second, and are not cumulative if there is more than one source in a location.

Smoke and Powder

Smoke and Powder can act as deescalators, blocking vision and allowing retreat. They can be released through grey Powder Canisters or Smoke Grenades, respectively. Smoke and Powder have a slightly different visual appearance, with Smoke having a more billowing form. They both instantly smother fire and prevent it from igniting Gas or Goo, or causing damage. Smoke and Powder can be seen through using Thermal Vision. By using Recon Senses or other intel-based gadgets to locate enemies, smoke can be an effective one-sided barrier.

Explosion

Explosions do immediate damage to both contestants and structures. Explosions can be created from red canisters, Frag Grenades, Explosive Mines, Pyro Mines, C4, Flammable Canisters and the RPG. Explosions can also activate buttons, displace Cashout Stations, and potentially trigger mines or other canisters to explode.

Environment

Name Description
Zipline This is a tool to allow easy access to many parts of the arena. Ziplines that are part of the arena act exactly the same as the Medium Build's deployable zipline, and therefore are destructible.
Jump Pad These are useful for traversing large gaps, and are only found in Seoul. They differ from the Medium Build's deployable Jump Pad as they cannot be destroyed, and always send the player in a diagonal trajectory.
Cannon Cannons are interactable environmental objects that can only be found in Monaco. When activated, they will shoot a cannonball in a straight line which will explode on impact. This can damage both the environment and contestants.
Crane The Crane is a structure that can be found in all arenas that can be used as a vantage point to overlook the entire arena. A vertical zipline is provided to access the upper cabin, where the Crane can be rotated left and right with buttons.
Raiseable Barricade These dynamic walls are present on all arenas, and can be raised and lowered by interacting with a button. They cannot be destroyed, although the button can be activated remotely with explosions.
Elevator Two types of elevators exist in THE FINALS, one for each arena. Elevators on Monaco are open-air, raiseable platforms with similar controls to the Raiseable Barricade. Elevators on Seoul are more conventional, with multiple buttons to select between floors.
