Gas canisters, also known as toxic canisters, gas barrels, or simply green barrels, are Carriable Objects that are placed around the arena grounds. They release stationary Gas upon being triggered, which may only be removed by Fire.

Overview

Like any barrel, gas canisters are placed at random locations picked from a large set of fixed barrel locations specific to each arena. It is possible for no barrels to be present in a round. They can also be obtained from Balloons. Contestants can pick up the barrel and carry it around the arena.

Stats

Effects

The canister will start leaking Gas when it takes enough damage, either from being shot, thrown, or fall damage after being dropped from the Balloon. From this moment the canister will have a 2-meter cloud of gas surrounding it for 15 seconds. After 15 seconds or after being completely destroyed from receiving damage, it will burst into stationary 3.5 meters cloud of Gas.

All gas from the gas canister deals the same amount of damage and has the same properties as any other toxic gas source, such as Gas Grenades or Gas Mines, despite it being smaller in size. Because of that, gas from the canister restricts visibility less then any other source of gas making it slightly less suitable for visual cover.

Properties

Barrel

Destructible — Destroyed upon receiving enough damage, resulting in a cloud of Gas.

Damaging — Hitting an ememy contestant directly with the barrel deals 70 damage. Gas that surrounds a triggered canister will deal usual Gas damage.

Trigger on Impact — Can fly for any amount of time and triggers when the projectile collides with a surface or contestant. For the Gas Canister, this happens at the first impact, unless it was dropped by a contestant holding it.

Attached — The gas surrounding triggered Canister is bound to it's position.

Reshapeable — Can be reshaped by the Data Reshaper into a different Arena Carriable by contestants.

Bounce — Bounces from the surface after being thrown, but get's triggered from the first collission.

Not Interceptible — Cannot be removed by the APS Turret.

Gas

Damaging — Deals damage to contestants.

Friendly Fire — Can damage both the user and their teammates.

Limited Duration — Gas cloud lasts 12 seconds.

Visibility — Affects the line of sight of the user and/or opponents. The gas cloud slightly blocks vision.

Not Attached — The gas cloud after the explosion will remain stationary.

Not Immobilizing — Does not stop affected contestants from moving.

No Structure Damage — Cannot be used to damage structures.

Strategy

  • Gas canisters can be used as area denial tools while defending a cashout, either by themselves or in conjunction with other tools.
  • Destroying a balloon of gas canisters will drop them to the ground and start releasing gas. This can be used to catch bunkered down or otherwise defending teams off guard.
  • Fire that is burning directly on the Gas canister will damage it, triggering the initial state of releasing gas, but the initial small gas will not appear. After the barrel has exploded, the fire that was attached to it will dissapear without destroying the gas cloud.
  • Gas canisters won't take damage when dropped as opposed to thrown, regardless of height.
