The ShAK-50 is an automatic assault rifle available to the Heavy class. It is best suited for dealing high damage at close to medium range with it's 2 bullets per shot.

Usage

The ShAK-50 Repeater can be selected as the weapon for any Heavy build loadout.

The trigger can be pulled to fire 2 rounds per shot.

Strengths

  • While the ShAk-50 has a significantly lower magazine capacity than other fully automatic weapons like the M60 and Lewis Gun, it benefits from a shorter tactical and empty reload and less horizontal recoil pattern.
  • Additionally, while the TTK is similar to those weapons, the individual shot deals considerably higher damage (for instance, landing one headshot with the ShAk-50 deals 50% more damage than with the M60).
    • This also means that being caught with only a handful of bullets left in the current magazine is slightly less detrimental for the ShAk-50.
  • The ShAk-50 has a relatively tight spread while hip-firing, making it a valid option for fights at short ranges (~ 5m).

Weaknesses

  • Despite the shorter tactical and empty reload times, due to the low amount of bullets per magazine (being 20), the ShAk-50 sees more frequent downtime, especially in longer fights.
  • While the individual shot deals considerably higher damage, the shot needs to hit the target in the first place. Missing multiple shots with the ShAk-50 can be very punishing, so it is crucial for the user to have good tracking to make each shot count.
  • The distance between the two bullets shot by the ShAk-50 upon firing once increases with distance (see graphic on the right). Combined with it's short minimum and maximum range (compared to the M60 and Lewis Gun), this significantly decreases its effectiveness at longer ranges, as one of the two bullets might not hit the target, halving the damage that this weapon could deal.

Tactics

  • Since the ShAk-50 can't sustain for long with it's low ammo count, but benefits from a relatively short reload time, it is especially important for the user to be aware of what cover they have readily available to quickly reload during the heat of battle and keep on fighting.
  • If the situation allows for it, it is beneficial to utilize the tactical reload of the ShAk-50 instead of emptying the whole magazine, as the tactical reload is almost a full second shorter.
  • The Winch Claw is a strong Specialization to be paired with the ShAk-50, as the weapon is at it's most effective close range. Pulling an enemy close and landing a few shots is a quick way to eliminate players and decrease the likelihood of missing shots.

Item Mastery

Item mastery XP can be earned by damaging and eliminating opponents with the ShAK-50.

Each time a certain XP threshold is reached, the item levels up. This does not improve the item, but rewards a unique item customization.

Trivia

  • The ShAK-50 is modeled after the ShAK-12, also known as the ASh-12, which is a bullpup .50 caliber battle rifle designed for close range engagements in urban environments by law enforcement.
    • Despite functioning as an assault rifle, the ShAK-50 is technically a battle rifle, as the caliber it fires is a full power rifle cartridge rather than an intermediate rifle cartridge. While it can only fire variations of the caliber designated for its use, which are significantly shorter, lower power, and lower grain than the primary variants designed originally for the VKS Sniper Rifle. 12.7x55mm STs-130 is still considered a full power cartridge regardless of its variant.
    • The 12.7x55mm cartridge used for the ShAK-12 rifle has a variant which loads two 17 gram (262 grain) bullets into one cartridge, making the rifle fire two rounds per shot similar to how the ShAK-50 functions in-game. this cartridge uses the designation PD-12, or ПД-12.
