Fire is an effect that can appear in the arena. It deals continuous damage to all contestants in direct contact with the burning surface and inflicts reduced damage for a few seconds after they leave the burning area.

All types of fire will last for 13 seconds when thrown on the floor or a wall, and 1 minute when thrown on vegetation.

Sources

  • Pyro Grenades instantly spread fire to all surfaces in a spherical area the moment they impact on a surface or contestant.
  • Pyro Mines create a fiery explosion that ignite the area when detonated.
  • Oil Barrels release fire upon explosion.
  • Cerberus 12GA can set contestants and Goo on fire by shooting it, although it does not create a fire source unlike other methods.

Mechanics

Any contestant (regardless of which team triggered the fire) that is in contact with the surface on fire will rapidly start taking damage. Leaving the burning surface will deal damage for a few more seconds at a lower DPS rate.

Unlike Smoke or Gas clouds, fire can expand through vegetation or Goo and move with objects or react to gravity during its lifespan.

Fire can be used to get rid of Goo. It can also set an entire Barricade or wall on fire to prevent opponents from hiding behind it.

Fire can clear clouds of Gas.

Fire can be extinguished by Smoke.
