Seoul 2023 was the second arena introduced to the game and was available for the first time in Closed Beta 1. It is based on the real-life city of Seoul, the capital and largest metropolis of South Korea. The arena is set among the skyscrapers of downtown Seoul and features sprawling high-rises spread across an urban landscape, though contestants are advised to watch their step as there are no barriers to prevent falling out of bounds.

Under Construction Under Construction

The Under Construction variant transforms the ISEUL-T Tower into an active construction site, opening it up to contestants via arena jump pads, ziplines, and access from the neighboring rooftops. A second crane is also present, providing an additional vantage point over the arena.

Strategy

With the ISEUL-T Tower now accessible, it becomes one of the most contested locations in the arena due to its central position and commanding view over the surrounding area. The close-quarters nature of the tower can make it a very chaotic environment, particularly when multiple teams are attacking at once. Cashout stations that spawn in the tower can be especially demanding for attackers to contest, as defenders can watch points of entry. The crane is incredibly useful to maintain pressure over the tower, so attempting to control it can be vital for both attackers and defenders.

Moving Platforms Moving Platforms

The Moving Platforms variant places vaults and cashout stations on platforms that slowly move around the arena.

Strategy

The constantly moving platforms provide little cover, making it difficult for both attackers and defenders to play around. Both sides should utilize deployable cover and mobility gadgets to effectively push and hold the cashout. Due to the height of the buildings around the arena, teams can hold the platforms on the neighboring rooftops, or use Winch Claw to position the cashout station off of the platform. This can be a way to counter any network driven rubberbanding if frequently exerpeinced.

Point of Interest

Name Description
Apartments The Apartments, officially named the 6° Of Freedom Residence, is multi-story residential complex located next to the Mall. The complex features an open-air courtyard design with a central walkway running through each floor. Behind the complex is a semi-walled garden area with raiseable walls, which provides zipline access to the Mall and a Jump Pad connecting to the Hospital.
Data Center The Data Center is a multi-story building located across from the Mall. The western portion of the building features an open-air rooftop garden, while the rest of the building serves as an electrical and data center. The roof is home to several HVAC systems, a large billboard displaying in-universe advertisements, and a pair of ziplines leading over to the Hospital and Mall.
Hospital The Hospital is a multi-building complex and the largest in the arena. It is separated into two distinct buildings, connected via a destructible skyway, rooftop path, and a zipline. The western section resembles a typical hospital and connects directly to the Apartments, while a zipline on its roof provides access to the Data Center. The eastern section, designed like an emergency ward, can be easily cut off from the rest of the map.
ISEUL-T Tower The ISEUL-T Tower is a skyscraper standing in the center of the arena, far above the surrounding buildings. It features large LED screens displaying in-universe advertisements and is otherwise inaccessible to contestants, unless the Under Construction variant is active. When accessible, the tower can be reached via arena jump pads and ziplines from all surrounding buildings, with a crane positioned directly in the center providing a commanding vantage point over the arena.
Mall The Mall, formerly known as Petronelle Plaza, has been rebranded and renamed after being taken over by ISEUL-T. It is located next to the Apartments, and across from the Data Center. It has zipline access to the rooftops of both buildings. The interior of the mall is made up of an indoor garden/plaza section, before breaking away into a multi-story shopping mall with a central elevator connecting all floors.

Trivia

Teaser of Seoul from the Closed Alpha trailer.
  • The Embark Studios team visited Seoul in 2019, which is likely where they got the inspiration for the arena.
  • While not specifically highlighted in the Closed Alpha trailer, Seoul was hidden within the trailer as an Easter egg. Seoul was later the primary focus of the first Closed Beta trailer.
  • Seoul is Senior Environment Artist Joakim's favorite arena.
  • In Update 8.3, the Hospital section received changes to address how difficult it was to attack against a prepared defense. While it was not the only change in the update, it was the most intricate change to an arena seen since launch.
