The Dome Shield is a Heavy class gadget that, when thrown, creates a spherical shield that absorbs incoming fire from opposing teams and deflects projectiles.

Usage

The Dome Shield can be selected as one of three gadgets of any Heavy build loadout.

Holding the primary trigger will prepare a high-velocity overhand throw. Holding the secondary trigger will prepare a low-velocity underhand throw. While preparing a throw, the gadget's trajectory is indicated up to the point where it triggers on impact. Releasing the trigger will execute the throw, whereas swapping to a different item will cancel it.

Stats

Effects

The Dome Shield can be deployed by throwing it as a grenade. On its first impact, a large spherical shield is formed around the projectile. A spherical shield persist around the projectile and moves with it.

The shield blocks incoming fire and projectiles from opposing teams and blocks explosion damage, but it does not prevent contestants moving through and it does not block gunfire from you or your teammates.

The Dome Shield will be destroyed if it takes too much damage. Additionally, the projectile itself has a much smaller health pool and can be destroyed quickly by opponents, causing the shield to disappear.

Properties

Gadget

Grenade — Can be thrown like a grenade, meaning overhand or underhand. The trajectory and impact point are shown as an indicator.

Single Charge — Can be used once, then recharges automatically over the cooldown time.

Not Retrievable — Cannot be picked up after being deployed.

Projectile

Projectile — Affected by gravity and has a travel time.

Bounce — Bounces away when the projectile collides with a surface or contestant.

Trigger on Impact — Can fly for any amount of time and triggers when the projectile collides with a surface or contestant.

Interceptible — Can be removed by the APS Turret, destroying the projectile before it deploys the shield. This causes the turret to lose some health.

Destructible — The projectile can be destroyed, which also deletes the surrounding shield. Can be destroyed by teammates.

Glitchable — Can be temporarily disabled by a Glitch Grenade or Glitch Barrel.

Reshapeable — Can be reshaped by the Data Reshaper into a piece of decor by opponents.

Not Damaging — Hitting a contestant directly with the projectile does not deal damage.

Not Permanent — Disappears by itself after enough time has passed.

Shield

Blocking — Absorbs damage from enemy bullets, deflects projectiles, blocks explosions, and stops the Winch Claw.

Destructible — Can be destroyed if its health is fully depleted, such as through hits from bullets or explosions. Cannot be damaged by teammates.

Glitchable — Can be destroyed by a Glitch Grenade or Glitch Barrel.

Usable by Opponents — Can be used by opponents to their advantage if there is a third team, as the Dome Shield will shield them from that team.

Non-Solid — Contestants can pass through.

Guide

Strengths

  • The Dome Shield is a highly flexible defensive tool. It can block damage in a gunfight, be thrown in an open area to take less damage crossing through it, or even be used reactively to block incoming threats like the rocket from an RPG-7.
  • The Dome Shield is also adept at protecting the user or their team while attempting to steal a Cashout.
    • It directly protects from Winch Claw impacts, preventing an opposing Heavy from moving the Cashout Station or stunning the contestant attempting to steal.
  • Directly counters most grenades, like Frag Grenades, which bounce off of the shield.
  • Much like the Mesh Shield, the Dome Shield can be shot through by you and your teammates to damage enemy contestants.

Weaknesses

  • Both Glitch Grenades and Glitch Barrels instantly break Dome Shields on contact.
  • Data Reshaper can reshape the grenade, breaking the shield immediately.
  • Since the Dome Shield cannot be picked up or moved, a poorly positioned Dome Shield may not provide much benefit or even bait teammates into holding a disadvantageous location.
  • Enemy inside the Dome or well-timed explosion can destroy the Dome Grenade very quickly, which will result in a broken Shield.

Tactics

  • Walking out of the Dome Shield when an opponent enters it and back in if they leave ensures that opponents need to take down the entire health of the Dome Shield before being able to hit the user.
  • By using visual and audio cues, the Dome Shield can reveal the direction from which an opponent was firing.
  • While opponents cannot shoot you through the Dome Shield, the same cannot be said for them. If an enemy ambushes you, you can throw the Dome Shield to provide enough cover to out-damage them. (It should be noted that this scenario is highly dependent on the weapon you are using and on how many enemies are currently engaging on you.)
  • Dome Shield can be deployed with a slight delay by throwing it upwards, since it won't create a shield until the projectile hits something. This can be useful to cover yourself while trying to steal a Cashout, since shield's duration is shorter than stealing time.

Item Mastery

Item mastery XP for the Dome Shield can be earned by actively using it.
